Salalah

Salalah is the second largest city in the Sultanate of Oman, and the largest city in the Dhofar Provence. The  

coastal city of Salalah is a traditional stronghold and birthplace of the Sultan, Qaboos bin Said. The Sultan traditionally lives in Salalah rather than in Muscat, the capital and largest city in Oman; Qaboos has bucked this trend, and has lived in Muscat since he ascended to the throne in 1970. He does however visit Salalah fairly regularly to meet with influential tribal and local leaders; his last visit was in 2006 and before that he visited in 2002. In mid-2009 the massive Sultan Qaboos Mosque was opened in Salalah, 39 years after he had taken the throne.

In 2010 during the 40th anniversary of Sultan Qaboos taking the throne, he decided to spend his time in Salalah. The 40th anniversary celebrations consisted of a massive parade[1][2][3][4][5] from the Sultan Qaboos Mosque until his palace in Al-Haffa. The parade lasted several hours and had an estimated 100,000 attenders

Salalah Weather

The picturesque land of Salalah is regarded as the administrative capital of Dhofar Governorate. This location of this “perfume Capital of Arabia” is on the Arabian Sea. There are traces of several civilizations in Salalah. The city of Salalah is cocooned amongst the banana plantations and coconut grooves. If you are planning to visit the Salalah city then a brief idea about the Salalah weather might help you out. Weather in Salalah is preferred by the tourists. You can visit this tropical paradise in between the month of July to September. It is during this time that you can experience the monsoon showers. Each year two type of crops are taken. The city is famous for the Frankincense trade. It is widely used all over the world. Frankincense tree grows widely in Salalah city. Trees like Baobab are found.

When the city is drenched with monsoon showers it is regarded as the Khareef season. In order to get relief from the scorching heat of the sun, vacationers crowd in this city and enjoy the weather at Salalah. Khareef fogs supply the water in Salalah city. The monsoon rain helps in the proper vegetation of the land. The inhabitants wait eagerly for this festival. A host of performers put on their best efforts to make the festival a grand success. Kids bubble with excitement when they see masked men in the form of rabbit, lion marching on the road. Toy vehicles and children’s train add more to their fun. Performers dress in colorful dresses. The carnival is usually joined by Indian expatriates. They are also dressed in the National costumes and greet His Majesty the Sultan. It is the best way to respect and to maintain the culture and heritage of the Omani People.
